Underground and Contemporary Shelters

Underground and Contemporary Shelters was a seven-month research-led curatorial project developed by TTTB Artist-Run Space. It unfolded in three stages: a series of discussions on the exhibition theme, an open call for works, and artists' on-site creation culminating in a physical exhibition.

The discussion series brought together 17 participants for four sessions, documented in two published archival accounts. TTTB then issued an open call for works. Participants in the discussions and selected artists developed work around the theme, and the resulting exhibition was presented at Park Art Space in Beijing.

Project

Introduction

TTTB practised "slow curating" as a way to reflect on the accelerated pace of exhibition-making. The approach gave time to sustained research and reflection: curators and artists entered into dialogue, tested ideas against one another and made work together, exploring what the exhibition could become.
